Families celebrating at Kinston Hub

June 3, 2023, the first-annual Hubbub at the Hub drew over 50 of Kinston’s first residents to The Hub and Mountain Cowboy Brewing Co, in spite of the season’s unusually wet and chilly weather. “Pivoting from an outdoor to an indoor celebration gave it a sense of intimacy and camaraderie,” according to the event’s organizer, Joy Nyenhuis.

Attendees grazed on a summer fresh charcuterie board (which pairs beautifully with a Kinston Kolsch, by the way). The spirit of the day was captured by a caricature artist, through face painting, and at a selfie/groupie station. Topping the occasion off with a cherry so to speak, was a make-your-own-ice cream station.

The planned butterfly release was postponed until the weather cleared up and on June 5, 100 Vanessa cardui, the scientific name for the painted lady butterfly, filled the air and took their rightful place as fellow residents of Kinston.
