Every season is unique and offers a little something for everyone. As summer fades into autumn, hiking and backpacking is one of the most popular activities as people are eager to stay active and enjoy the changing Aspen trees and beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. Here are some of our recommendations for the best places to backpack near Loveland, CO.

Round Mountain National Recreation Trail

To get to the Round Mountain trailhead, take U.S. Highway 34 up Big Thompson Canyon four miles past the mouth of the canyon. Camping is prohibited along the first mile of the trail, but past that you will find several granite outcroppings through rows of beautiful Ponderosa pines and Douglas fir where you can roll out the sleeping bag. Views from the trail include the Big Thompson Canyon, the eastern plains of Colorado, as well as Pinewood and Carter Lake reservoirs.
