A Unique Amenity Spot – High Plains Environmental Center

One of the best unique amenities at The Lakes at Centerra is High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC).

A “Living Laboratory,” HPEC shares with residents examples of community design, land stewardship, eco-literacy, and most importantly, sustainable living that teaches residents how to live in harmony with the land.

With Colorado’s continued growth, comes the importance of managing the natural development. High Plains Environmental Center specializes in conserving and restoring the unique native biodiversity of Colorado in the midst of development and teaches others how to do the same. HPEC’s exhibits and extensive gardens demonstrate how to balance wildlife in our backyards and the ever-important conservation of water through the use of native plants.

Boasting trails, a community garden, and a native plant nursery are just some of the many reasons why High Plains Environmental Center is a valuable gem to residents living at The Lakes at Centerra. They offer monthly workshops and educational lecture series as well as hands-on activities for all ages that are sure to help you further appreciate your natural surroundings.

Activities this summer you can’t miss:

  • June 10, 10 am:  Join other residents to plant pumpkins in the HPEC vegetable garden.
  • June 17, 8 am: Take part in a guided bird walk around Equalizer Lake.
  • July 11, 6 – 7 pm:  Learn more about smart home technology from Joel Danforth of Platte River Power Authority.

Go visit High Plains Environmental Center website for a full list of events and for more information on how to take the most out of this incredible amenity!
