Nature should not be contained. Backyards, schoolyards, parks and other community spaces can become habitat for native wildlife. That idea has turned The Lakes at Centerra into a living laboratory. And judging by the 150 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish – plus 185 varieties of native trees, shrubs and grasses – that have been observed here, the experiment is working. This is the mission behind the not-for-profit High Plains Environmental Center and a big reason why we’re Colorado’s only Certified Wild community.
