People have lived in Colorado for over 10,000 years. Looking at native plants through the lens of these first people’s offers us a view of a world that existed before grocery stores and pharmacies; where people found everything they needed in nature.

During this day long program we will learn about how common native plants were used in ancient times, and how are they used today by Plains Indian tribes food, food, ceremony, and medicine.

If weather allows we will spend time outdoors in the High Plains Environmental Center’s living plant collection to touch, taste, and smell the plants, as well as learning their names in the Lakota language.

This program is intended to honor Colorado’s first inhabitants and build connection and relationship with the native community.
