Colorado’s high altitude, arid climate, bright sun, wind, and frequent extreme temperature fluctuations can present significant challenges for gardeners in our region. The use of native plants provides the ideal solution to these challenges while helping to preserve Colorado’s unique and beautiful biodiversity literally in our own backyards.

To utilize native plants successfully it is essential to understand the cultural requirements of the plants, as well as color, height, and timing of bloom in order to combine plants effectively. This presentation will provide detailed information that will help gardeners utilize native plants successfully.

Jim Tolstrup, Executive Director of the High Plains Environmental Center works to promote the conservation, restoration and landscape use of native plants and is the State Horticulture and Restoration Chair for the Colorado Native Plant Society.
