7 Great Places to Ski Near the Loveland, CO Area

Located conveniently by the Rocky Mountains, it’s no surprise people are relocating to Loveland, CO. A short drive takes you to downtown Denver, and just a bit farther, takes you west to the snowcapped Colorado Rockies for a weekend of great family skiing and trekking in the mountains. To get the most out of Colorado living,The Lakes at Centerra has compiled a list of the seven best places for you to go skiing or snowboarding locally.

Eldora Mountain Resort

With an estimated drive time of just over an hour and the only ski area on the Front Range side of the mountains, Eldora is a great family destination open for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country and snowshoeing. With just a short drive, you can spend your day in the bliss of Colorado’s natural beauty. You can also avoid a good portion of the I-70 traffic jams.

Winter Park Resort

With an estimated drive time about two hours away, three interconnected mountain peaks make up Winter Park Resort, which all share a common lift ticket. Each mountain offers different terrains from moguls to tree skiing to backcountry. Make this your weekend getaway, even during the warmer months. In the summer, the Winter Park Resort is open for mountain biking, alpine slides and a great destination for road biking and hiking.

Loveland Slope Ski Area

Also one hour and 45 minutes away, locals are drawn to the Loveland Ski Area. Not only do they get regular snowfall, but they also have a longer-than-average ski season. Loveland Ski Area appeals to both beginners and experts with its lesson program, remarkable terrain and free snowcat skiing along the Continental Divide. On Valentine’s Day, wedding ceremonies take place on top of the mountain, while festive celebrations happen at the base.

Arapahoe Basin

A short two-hour commute, Arapahoe Basin is known as “A Basin” to many Coloradoans and also features one of the longest ski seasons in North America. It has been known to stay open all the way through June. Surrounded by the White River National Forest of Colorado, it’s a great place to find yourself skiing for the weekend, especially since it’s so close to new homes for sale in Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado.

Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain is a ski resort located about 75 miles west of Denver on I-70. With over 140 trails, 23 lifts and 2,465 acres of skiable terrain, Copper is another local favorite. In addition to the endless ski and snowboard opportunities, Copper also offers family-friendly activities such as the tubing hill, ice-skating, Woodward Trampoline Park, restaurants and more.

Keystone

Keystone is another popular resort in Summit County with 3,148 skiable acres. It is also the largest night skiing operation in Colorado, with select chairlifts open from 8:30 a.m.—8p.m. For families with kids, Keystone offers a special promotion allowing children under the age of twelve to ski free with a two-night stay.

Breckenridge

Also located in Summit County, Breckenridge Ski Resort offers 187 trails and 34 chairlifts. Each of its five skiable peaks also has views of Colorado’s famous “fourteeners”(peaks that rise 14,000 feet or higher). Complete with lodging, lessons, childcare and equipment rentals, Breckenridge can be the perfect weekend escape for your family.
