Fort Collins-Loveland Area Among Fastest Growing Metros

It’s no secret that the desirable Colorado Front Range has been growing. Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau now shows that this rising trend has landed the Fort Collins-Loveland area among the fastest growing metros in the nation.

The data shows that more than 14,000 people moved to northern Colorado in 2014. Market experts have credited the population growth to reputable area universities, oil and gas activities and strong economic development. The year-over-year population increase of 2.4% makes the region the 12th fastest-growing metro in the nation.

Neighboring Greeley, a short drive from Loveland, has also experienced notable growth, ranking as the No. 8 fastest growing city in the country.

Focusing even on the state level, the northern Front Range still stands out. Last year, the state of Colorado in its entirety grew by 1.6%, adding 83,780 residents. Larimer County (Fort Collins-Loveland) had the sixth-fastest growth rate in the state, and Weld County (Greeley) had the fifth-fastest rate in the state.

While economic and education opportunities are attracting more and more residents to the region, local officials are not concerned about keeping up with the pace. Larimer County Commissioner Steve Johnson has been quoted saying the growth in the area is “manageable,” and credits a lower cost of living as being an attractive draw for new residents relocating from California or the Midwest.
