Neighbors Become Friends at The lakes

Summer is officially in full swing which means longer days, hotter nights, and a plethora of activities to participate in at The Lakes at Centerra. Resident events are a great opportunity to build relationships with neighbors and community members alike. The Lakes has designed many spaces where residents who enjoy similar interests can come together, grow friendships and enjoy life in a growing community. Here are a few resident events happening throughout the Lakes community this summer.

Get to know your community

Start your morning off right with The Lakes Walking Club. If you’re up for a brisk walk or a jog around the lake you’ll definitely want to join the community’s newest group, which meets weekly for some fresh air. If you’d rather spend some time with friends of the feathered variety, join Sheila Webber for a bird walk around Equalizer Lake on the first Saturday of each month between February and October. Walking will be at a slow pace on approximately 2 miles of level walking paths in order to observe the different species of birds that also call The Lakes home.

The Lakes’ summer potluck series returned August 1 with ‘Summer Grub & Brews’. Residents came together and celebrated the season over a summer grub potluck and beer exchange where they connected with old friends, met new neighbors, and enjoyed delicious sips and snacks.

As summer draws to a close, the first day of school looms just around the corner! Beat those back-to-school blues and join the Lakes for a splashin’ fun pool party on August 10 complete with a DJ, food trucks, snow cones and giveaways. There will also be the opportunity to donate school supplies to both teachers and students in the Loveland community.

Ditch the office for a bit and spend your lunch hour outside by stopping by Centerra’s food truck roundup on August 15, September 19, October 17 and November 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy some of the community’s greatest local eats on four wheels including appearances by Corndoggies, StoryMaker Coffee Bar, Austin Taco and more! Check out their Facebook page to see which trucks will be at each roundup.

Quality Family Time

The Lakes’ Great American Campout was a huge success with seven families (over 30 people) in attendance. In addition to the traditional campout activities, like s’mores, the group had the chance to join in a ‘wicotis’ gathering at High Plains Environmental Center. This was part of the Lakota Ride which brought a chance to experience the Lakota culture and traditions to The Lakes. Campers and residents had the chance to take in an incredible presentation by the Lakota tribe members that began with a sage burning to commemorate the ceremonial event. Members of the tribe then put on a performance complete with singing and dancing, teaching attendees how to do the same routine. The kiddos that joined in on the fun had the opportunity to make beaded jewelry – a timeless tradition of the Lakota tribe – and also participated in a scavenger hunt bingo. Fun was had by all!

Sounds of Centerra officially kicked off on July 12 with Zimbira, an Afro pop group that revels in the traditional and contemporary music of Zimbabwe. The incredible set included guitars, marimbas and unique vocals that truly impressed the crowd. The following week Sounds of Centerra featured Soul School, a funk, R&B, soul group that got the entire lawn up on their feet to dance along to their foot-tapping tracks. On August 26th, Centerra welcomed the 6 Million Dollar Band, who got the lawn rocking with 80s covers that both young and old sang and danced along to. The last concert on August 2 featured Wes Urbaniak & The Mountain Folk strumming away in Bluegrass Americana style.
