THE LAKES: A YEAR IN REVIEW

Wow, what a year it has been here at The Lakes at Centerra! As 2019 comes to a close and 2020 looms just around the corner, there’s no better time to look back at all the fun and say ‘thanks’ for being a part of this community that you call home.

Resident Events

2019 was a year full of new events and the return of favorite traditions. We had a blast celebrating each season with you and getting to know neighbors new and old. One of our favorite events of the year was the Oktober FallFest, which brought out the community, great food and tasty beer. With fun activities for the younger crowd, it was great to see so many folks come out to enjoy beautiful fall weather together! The Lakes looks forward to celebrating this event in years to come.

Something new in 2019 was the addition of smaller resident events like Wellness Wednesday and resident cooking classes. These are fun because they give residents the chance to learn something new and connect with a group of neighbors they may not have met yet. One of our favorite events was the ‘Learn to make Gnocchi like an Italian Grandma’, residents had the chance to learn how to make this dish from scratch and had a lot of laughs in the process.Lakes Cooking Class

We look forward to bringing more events like this to the calendar in 2020!

The resident clubs here at The Lakes are part of what makes life so special. It brings us joy to see neighbors become friends as they bond over lifelong interests and newfound passions. This year brought the addition of new clubs like walking club, moms club and another book club to accommodate even more readers! If you haven’t tried out a club yet, 2020 is your chance. Meeting times and details can be found on your Resident Calendar. If you haven’t found a club that fits your needs, you have the option to create your own. Pick something that interests you and invite other residents to join! It’s easy. Just reach out to The Lakes community manager to begin the process.

Splashin’ Into Fun

We are so fortunate to have the opportunities for water recreation right outside our doors here at The Lakes. The Lake Club pool provides a chance to gather together, as we did for the Splash Into Summer event, or to simply beat the summer heat. So many families and neighbors took advantage of this great amenity throughout the season. Add in snow cone Tuesdays and it was the recipe for a perfect summer!

Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Lake were another option for fun during the spring and summer. Whether it was birdwatching with High Plains Environmental Center or enjoying a stroll around the water on one of the many trails, we love how easy it was for you to connect with nature. We also had residents who enjoyed kayaking on the water, showcasing their adventurous spirit!

Going (Certified) Wild

It was another year full of amazing opportunities to learn about the natural habitat we live in with help from High Plains Environmental Center. Whether you took advantage of a community garden plot, attended a lecture series or filled your yard with goodies from the Native Plant Sale, this is an amenity we are continually thankful for. This year, High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) and Centerra teamed up for Centerra Volunteer Day as a way to clean up the local community and give back! The clean-up efforts tremendously helped Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Lake, helping to keep The Lakes at Centerra clean. Seeing so many resident and community volunteers show up for this event was incredible and really helped to keep the neighborhood and Centerra get back to looking their best.

The Lakes can’t wait to see how this community becomes even wilder in the upcoming year. Looking to join in on the fun? 2020 could be the year your yard becomes a certified wildlife habitat! It’s easier than it sounds. In order to create a yard that meets the certified wildlife habitat requirements you must create a space in your yard that could act as shelter and a food source or a water source for the wildlife that call The Lakes Home. Learn more about getting your yard certified here.

2020 is shaping up to be another busy year here at The Lakes. A new custom home program means new neighbors moving in! For the first time, The Lakes at Centerra is bringing a whole new meaning to a lakeview home. The Lakes’ new custom home program provides a small, secluded enclave – a single street with just a dozen of one-of-a-kind homes – just steps from Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Lake. Each and every home will back up to open, natural green space, creating a serene place for you to spend time outside. With close access to other amenities like HPEC and The Lake Club, these homes offer a truly unmatched lifestyle.

The Lakes is doing its best to create events and activities that will help build up this community and foster opportunities to connect. 2020 is sure to be another year filled with fun resident events, community wide events and volunteer opportunities. Keep an eye out for your resident newsletter which details all of The Lakes favorite events all year long.

The Lakes is so thankful to be a part of this community that you choose to call home. Here’s to the end of 2019 and the beginning of an amazing year ahead!
